World peace is very important. Sometimes we wonder what we can do to improve the state of the world – in this class we learn how to create peace within our own mind so we can help others to do the same. An inspiring way to spend your Sunday morning – bring your family and friends along! The class includes guided meditations, probably a short teaching and special prayers for world peace.
This beautiful chanted practice that reminds us how to create the causes for peace for our self and others through recitation of verses taken from ancient Buddhist poetry.
Frequently asked questions:
What does the class entail? Each class consists of a breathing meditation to settle the mind. Then there is a teaching based on a topic from Transform Your Life. Then we collectively recite the verses from Prayers for World Peace which include a silent period for further meditation. People are welcome to stay after the class for refreshments and to discuss the ideas raised or ask questions to our friendly Buddhist community.
Is it religious?
The classes are based on Buddha’s teachings which principally reveal how to maintain a happy and peaceful mind all the time and then to share this experience with others. Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso says “Everybody religious or non-religious is looking for happiness all the time. They can fulfil their aim through practising these instructions.” The temple draws people from all walks of life from experienced Buddhist practitioners to those just wishing to learn more about meditation. Everybody is welcome regardless of background or beliefs.
Do I have to join in the prayers?
No. The main part of the class will be the teaching and guided meditation. The prayers help prepare the best conditions in our mind for these and last around 10-15 minutes. There is no requirement to participate, you can simply listen and soak up the peaceful energy of the temple.
